Inverness family photoshoot at Dores Beach near Inverness.
No nessie and you could have a family photoshoot anywhere.
Dores Beach family photoshoot with Dima, Julia and the kids. A quick shoot on the beach near Inverness.
Julia and Dima hit me up just a week before on WhatsApp for their Inverness family photoshoot. I had a Saturday free, so, they packed up the kids and embarked on an epic journey from Thurso to join me for an hour of memory-making madness!
We rendezvoused at the church near Dores (not the Dores Inn car park, mind you) and then embarked on a leisurely jaunt towards the pebble-strewn shores of Loch Ness. No Nessie sightings, but boy, was it a showtime down there!
Paddle boarders showing off their aquatic acrobatics, swimmers having a splashy good time, wide-eyed tourists soaking in the view, and, of course, the resident ducks strutting their feathery stuff.
Our mission during this family shoot? Capture those oh-so-natural, in-the-moment snapshots with minimal ‘say cheese’ moments. I gave some gentle nudges, but mostly, we kept it chillaxed as we basked in an hour of togetherness. Oh, and speaking of time, we kinda stretched it a smidge to let their eldest son, who’s is a non-verbal, autistic superhero, do his thing. No pushing him into awkward poses here—just vibes and gestures, on his schedule. #AutismAwareness for the win!
As I clicked away, time whizzed by, and in the midst of memory-making, we had ourselves some good laughs. Sure, there was a bit of a language barrier – me, doing my best in my Scottish accent, and them, originally hailing from Ukraine. But hey, laughter is a universal language, right?
Dores, by the way, is like the canvas of dreams for family photoshoots. You’ve got the beach (pebbles, not sand, but it’s all good), and just a short walk away, you can dive into woods and fields for a change of scenery. And if you fancy exploring more of Inverness and its surroundings, guess what’s coming soon? Autumn, baby! Those colours are gonna pop like a confetti cannon.
So, if you’re even remotely thinking about a family photoshoot in or around Inverness, drop me a line. I’m all ears for your ideas and can even hook you up with a nifty gift voucher for that special someone.

Now, about the age-old question: What to wear for your family photo extravaganza? Here’s the skinny:
- Coordinate your outfits, but let’s not go full-on twinsies.
- Ivory trumps plain white any day.
- Don’t forget the shoe game; they’re part of the fashion spectacle but also think of your shoot location.
- Layer up to add texture
- Think about your location—it’s your photoshoot’s.
- Above all, slip into what makes you feel like the superstar you are: comfy and confident!
