Wedding Trends 2024, what clients and Google are saying.
just be you, the f’n fabulous you
2024 wedding trends I’m seeing coming through and also what Google says you lovely lot are searching for when it comes to weddings.
Film Photography
Alright, hold onto your vintage hats because film (analogue) wedding photography is getting more attention than a cat video on the internet!
The search frenzy for film wedding photography has skyrocketed by a jaw-dropping 266% this year. That’s right, even the pixels are gasping in awe. It’s like film photography woke up from its retro slumber and shouted, “Hey, I’m not extinct!”
Are you Team Film, Team Hybrid (a film-and-digital blend), or just chilling with Team Digital? Your choice here is like picking your wedding squad – it determines who’s going to capture those happy tears and story-telling moments.
I’m there with my trusty 35mm film or maybe even a medium format camera, all set to immortalize your big day. But wait, before you imagine instant gratification like a fast-food drive-thru, here’s the thing: Film photography is the tortoise of the photography world. It takes its sweet time, from clicking that candid laugh to you getting your hands on the treasure trove of memories.
See, each shot on film is like a carefully crafted masterpiece; we’re not just tapping away like mad typists on a keyboard – it’s an art form. And don’t expect an overflow of images like a digital memory card on steroids. We are not filling a memory card, it’s a few rolls of film, which could mean a return rate of 120 prints.
Can’t you just slap a digital filter on and call it a day? Well.. you can mimic the vibe of film photography with a digital camera. It’s like dressing up as your favorite movie character for Halloween – you’re close, but it’s not the real deal.
Thinking about a full film wedding photography package? Contact me and I’ll happily discuss a film/analogue wedding package with you.

70’s Weddings: Look out those flared trouser suits and retro dresses
It’s time to dust off those flared trouser suits and bust out your grooviest retro dresses because guess what? 70’s weddings are back, and they’re back with a 29% growth explosion that’s more impressive than attempting to fit into your old bell-bottoms!
“What’s causing this rad resurgence?” Well, blame it on those addictive TV shows that got us all obsessed with disco balls and lava lamps again. We’ve got more ’70s vibes floating around than a lava lamp on dance night.
Proof? Retro wedding hairstyles has seen more traffic than a herd of love-struck llamas, with a whopping 575% increase compared to last year. Apparently, people are trading in “I do’s” for “Far out, man!”
It’s time to rescue those retro dresses from the back of your closet, do some vintage shopping like your life depends on it (seriously, check out vinted.co.uk), or give your mums and grans a little nudge to lend you their throwback fashion.
Let’s not forget the hair – get your hairdresser on the line and demand a retro makeover that would make the Bee Gees proud. Or, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, throw a full-on ’70s-themed wedding bash that even Austin Powers would envy!
So, whether you’re twirling in flares or voguing in retro glam, the ’70s are here to party like it’s 1979. Groovy, baby!

Short Wedding Dresses
Guess who’s making a comeback? Yep, short wedding dresses are strutting back into the spotlight with all the flair of a pop star’s encore! And you know who we’re pointing fingers at, right? Those social media trendsetters who’ve practically turned dressing rooms into runways. Seriously, that dress? It’s been shared more times than cat videos.
But hey, hold the bouquet – if you’re feeling more like a party crasher than a bride in a short dress, fear not! Time to unleash your inner wedding superhero – it’s Transformer time, baby! These dresses are like Clark Kent and Superman rolled into one. You can have that traditional aisle-worthy look during the vows, but when the DJ drops a beat, whip off that overlay skirt, and bam – you’re ready to cut loose on the dance floor like a pro.
And just a hop, skip, and a twirl away, we’ve got Mel at Wedding Belles, your local fairy godmother of dress transformations. So, if you’re in need of a fashion rescue, Mel’s got your back. Get ready to rock that short dress, switch from elegance to dance moves in a snap, and leave everyone wondering how you pulled off the ultimate bridal magic trick!

Black wedding dresses
Let’s talk about the daring choice that is a black wedding dress. Now, personally, I’m all for it – I mean, black can be stunning. But, let’s not forget, it’s not just about you and your fabulous self, it’s about your venue too. Is that black dress gonna own the room, or is it gonna stand out like a goth at a neon party?
So, my fearless fashionistas, choose wisely. Your dress doesn’t need to be the same old white or ivory – forget the meringue vibes. But, and here comes the punchline, make sure you’re not turning heads for all the wrong reasons, like being the bride version of Wednesday Addams. You know what I’m saying?

Black wedding dresses are having a moment like they’ve just been cast in their own reality show. I’m talking almost 10,000 Google searches in June alone. Brace yourselves, people, black wedding dresses are on the horizon.
Brands like Maggie Sottero, Demetrios, Marco & Maria, and Modeca are throwing dark and dramatic gowns onto the runway. It’s like they’ve given Cinderella a rockstar makeover. So, get ready for a splash of color, a dash of black, and a whole lot of fashion-forward vibes in 2024!
Let’s have a chit-chat about jumpsuits, also about to hit the scene like a social media star’s viral post. Apparently, they’re the new “I do” uniform. Not feeling the dress? Get into that jumpsuit and own it like a boss. You can rock it all day or save it for the evening shenanigans.
Saxophone Weddings – without Lisa Simpson
Get ready to jazz up your wedding searches because the ‘saxophone wedding’ query on Google has skyrocketed by a mind-blowing 143% since the good ol’ days of last year. Couples are turning their weddings into groovy music fests!
This isn’t some hipster trend that’s been lurking in the shadows. Nope, it’s been creeping up for a while (mainly overseas), and now it’s strutting into the spotlight for 2024. Get ready to witness the sax-appeal!
And here’s a little 2023 scoop for you: I’ve had not one, not two, but three saxophonists stealing the dancefloor show this year. Picture this: these musical maestros grooving about, backed up by a full-blown band. It’s like a musical circus that adds that extra sprinkle of fun for your guests and hands me a treasure trove of fantastic content for your wedding album. So, brace yourselves for the sax-travaganza – it’s about to make your wedding playlist a whole lot sassier!

Celebrant-led ceremonies
Apparently, there’s this new kid in town – they call it a trend. But hold your kilts, because here in Scotland, it’s not a trend; it’s practically our national sport. Move over haggis, we’ve got trend-setting to do!
Now, let’s talk about this word they’re throwing around: “celebrant.” Well, here’s the thing – it’s like the catch-all term for the maestros behind the ceremony curtain. Interfaith, minister, humanist – they’re all in the celebrant club. They’re the ones who can make a ceremony shine whether you’re saying “I do” beneath the clouds or within four walls.
Google’s got a front-row seat to the show. They’ve clocked a 157% traffic increase for the search term “celebrant-led weddings.”
Not sure this a ‘trend’ in the Highland Wedding scene, nope, it’s as normal as a cuppa tea in the morning. So go ahead, let the world catch up to our Scottish wisdom – we’ll be here, celebrating and leading the way, like the trendsetters we’ve always been!

So, wedding trends, good and bad happen every year. They can creep up on us and then whack, over the head with a wedding hammer. This year I’ll go with Tiktok Reels and those shades!
It’s not something I see alot of as I am mainly a micro and elopement photographer, I did however learn my trade in the big wedding scene.
One thing to remember, trends are trends, you be the trend, do you and let external factors stay external if you feel they are not for you. Why have a wedding like everyone elses, have YOUR wedding the way YOU want it. You’re as individual as you want to be.
